China is a large and diversified country. The PPI/PPIC China Program has four strategically placed offices: Beijing, Chengdu, Hong Kong, and Wuhan, representing the key crop production areas of the country. The focus of each office is the same - to increase P and K use by applying scientific research information to educational programs. Because of regional circumstances, the specific approach each office uses requires different activities.

In the north, grains are the major crops, along with some fruits and vegetables. In the west, where the mighty Yangtze River originates, using balanced fertilizer techniques to dramatically reduce soil erosion and water runoff - and consequential down stream flooding - is being emphasized. In the south, high fertilizer-using tropical crops such as bananas, litchi, mango, and bamboo...where quality is almost as important as quantity...receive major attention. In central China, grain and oilseed crops are important as well as fruits and vegetables. Rice is the one crop common throughout China, although our national effort is modified according to regional requirements and perspectives.
